anybody else having this problem besides just me and VikingDiesel???
Well how many miles you got? Well when my first injector went it was real hit and miss on the shake. It was a very odd problem , the only way I could find the problem was shut off fuel to each cylinder to see what changed if any and also check temp coming out of each cylinder to find the one that was running hotter or colder than the other 5 banks!

When my next injector went it shook all the time. I just happen to be by a dodge place when I started noticing it. They hooked up to it and said number one was bad!

yeah the dodge dealer can! the sad part is cummins cant hook up to the new trucks as per an engineer change that dodge made!! That way they could guarantee work for the service dept!

Yeah that would be a good place to start, you may just luck out and find it. I would let them deal with it being under warranty, I have worked with a few guys that had an injector go pretty early so there is a good possibility you could have a bad one!

It happend when I worked at Cat some engines would have a bad injector after only 50hrs of service!

Now that you mention it. Once in awhile when its cold and the high idle kicks in i get a little shake, almost like its surging i guess. If i use the pedal to take it to the same rpm it doesnt do it just when the high idle engages.

I think it is because ALL heavy trucks DO NOT have to use CAN(controller area network) diagnostics...
but all passenger cars and trucks have to be CAN before 08 I believe maybe even 07 I cant remember.

Yeah I think so! I know it happens at least in the big engine big truck world it did. Most of the time nothing major just a QC error!

I had #2 injector replaced at 30K miles, never any shaking noticed while high idle was engaged, no white smoke, no codes thrown, nada. My truck would be running fine and then all of a sudden start knocking like someone was taking a ball ping hammer and beating the side of the block. The knocking would last for awhile then quit for awhile maybe days at a time, it took three try's to the dealership before they heard it. First couple times at the dealership it ran like a well oiled sewing machine, they said they did all kinds of test to dupicate the knock it never would do it for them. Finally one day I was in town and low and behold it started knocking I made a be line to the dealership pulled up to the service bay the service writer came out and I said you hear that, he said I heard it knocking before you pulled in the garage I said go get the service tech that looked at it the last two times he did and soon as the tech walked in the service bay gargage he looked at me and said injector knock. Finally you heard it and now you know I'm not a nut.Funny thing though it would always start knocking when I went out to visit a mechanic buddy of mine at his shop.

So has anyone noticed a knock or tick while the shaking is going on. So far my truck as run great after they replaced that one injector.

Tony

no, strictly the high-idle ONLY. It will NOT shake if I rev it manually

I have a little tick noise coming for the drivers side front wheel well, it comes and goes like an A/C Compressor and it also sounds like the A/C compressor.
