Is this normal?

I just bought a 06 Quad Cab 4x4. It has about 800 miles on it and is an auto trany, when I'm stopped and take off under moderate acceleration i get a very brief shudder, is this normal?

I can't say for sure if you do or don't have a problem. I took me a week or so to learn how to drive mine. I have the manual and it had a shudder but it turned out to be operator error. Looking at your post though it sounds like you might be talking about launching an auto.

Mine is an 04.5, not an 06........but I remember having a "launch shudder" too for a while. It just seemed to go away on it's own after a while, maybe after 10,000 miles. I can't tell you what causes it though....sorry.

My 06 has it also. Any recommendations to kill it?
Thanks,

probably is just because the whole drivetrain is so tight.

"Launch Shudder"

My 06 Dually has it also...... They are going to install a shim kit to drop the driveline 1/2" to remedy it. The problem seems to concern trucks with a two-piece drive shaft. My problem almost goes away when I put a little weight in the bed.

My 04 555 305 long box 2wd does it with a load, not when empty.
Did the drive line shim thing...helped somewhat.
Now I just ignore it...tired of going back to the dealer time and again with hoot owl noise when cold and launch shudder.
Not bad and has not broke down on the side of the road other than for a lift pump and that was replaced with the in tank retrofit.

My '05 was doing the same thing. I now have 15,000 miles and the problem has gone away. I believe it was the carrier bearing on the driveshaft. I agree with others, that your driveline is tight and will loosen up with some use.

all that torque and next to no give in the driveline.....its just letting you know what its capable of.....look under your truck at that beefy driveline and think....well this thing must have some power if it can make this shudder!!!!!

There is such a thing as pinion angle and if it's off you will have the launch shudder which is not normal. A good drive line tech should be able to diagnose this with taking measurments of the angle of the drive shaft as it connects to the diff.

I went through this when I lifted my truck. I had to shim my carrier bearing approx. 1.5" down and I still get a very little bit on take off.

just my .02

I have a shudder in my 06 Mega Cab. I can't wait to see that my dealer is going to do about it.
It doesn't seem like a lot of thought or engineering went into the drivelines on the 06.

Launch Shudder

Maybe I should wait a few thousand miles before letting them shim the driveline........They might mess it up worse by monkeying with it!
I only have 500 miles on mine.
