Hey guys,
Just bought the truck in my sig (figured I better fill that out before I get yelled at), and love it. Traded in an 04 F150 FX4, and the poor little thing couldn't pull my toy hauler. Don't know why I didn't get the Cummins in the first place. Just had a question about towing and running the truck in general. I know now that i have 650 miles on it, I should drive it like I stole it, but when you are pulling a good load (the hauler weighs 8500-9000 lbs) where do you all keep the tach at. I figured since she maks her torq at 1600, and with my set up, 60 MPH is about 1700, I was gonna run her there. Just wonderin what you all think.

1600 is peak torque rpm. I think once you get it up and rolling, it takes a lot less torque to keep it rolling. Mine turns 2000 at 72 mph or so. Good pulling power but not so fast to lower the mpg a lot.
I pull a 12000# 5ver and usually run it right at 2000 RPM which is roughly 70. Max tq of 610 is at 1600 BUT it doesn't drop below 550 ftlbs all the way up. You don't need to run at the max tq point.
I pull 7000-8000lbs all the time at 80mph which is about 2200rpm. If I need to speed up to pass someone real quick, the truck never has a problem. I dont think you need to worry about an optimum rpm unless you are trying to conserve diesel and get better milage.
