No trailer tow package?
No trailer tow package?
My buddys truck 07 didnt come with a trailer tow package. Does he have to run all the wires for the trailer plug all the way back? If so where does he hook to in order to do it?

Check with Dodge, they used to offer a wiring kit for trucks ordered without a tow package. If you don't have any luck there, Valley may make one. You can probably get a 4 pin at U-Haul that just plugs in also but it won't have the brake wires.
I have the entire towing harness on my bench. I got it from the dealer because I was missing the socket in the bumper. That was the only part I used from it. I'll be glad to sell your friend the entire harness at a fair price. Its a very large harness. Has the trailer brake wires and everything.

I told him to get on the site and find your post. He should be contacting you soon he sounded interested. Thanks for the help.
Yeah he probably should buy a harness from the dealer for like $75. It hooks into the 4-flat connector that comes on every truck, then the black wire needs to be screwed into a good ground, the purple wire is for reverse lights, there is a hot wire that goes to the battery and the blue wire goes up to the cab for trailer brakes which I still haven't figured out where I need to hook it up yet... If he doesn't need the 7 pin every truck comes stock with a 4 flat even without a tow package.
Tell him to get a Putnam XDR hitch, on the plus side he doesn't have to grind on the cross tube since it came without a hitch. And he gets a much stronger hitch for less money.

On my 97 i had to hook up the brake to the brake wires under the dash. at the top of the brake pedal there you will see the wires the one I think you need is the striped one (not sure) take a light tester and check them out.

Oh another thing. The downside to a frame mount hitch like I mentioned above is that you can't put a 315 spare down there anymore. Biggest I've heard of is 285 for a spare... I'll just take my chances with the stock spare.
