No Start

I'm new to diesel ownership so I'm trying to figure out what is going on with the truck. It ran great the night befor and then wouldnt start the next day. The engine turns over but will not fire. I put more fuel in to see if the gage went bad and no luck. I think my lift pump is working because I am getting fuel to the water/fuel seperator. There doesn't seem to be any water in the fuel either. If anyone can give me advice as to what to proceed with next it would be great.

I would start with what codes do you have? You can use a code reader or due the key on-off three time & leave it on the third (third or fourth, I can't remember). They write down all of the codes & check them out here on this site "on-line store" "computer codes".

no codes show up with the key trick. changed out the fuel filter no results. I can hear the lift pump turn onwhen I try to crank it up and it continues to go for about 30 sec. Is there a way to test the lift pump to see if it is actualy operational?

Yes, open your fuel filter housing, drain the fuel, turn on the key and see the bowl fill.

From what I've seen, the 03 fuel pumps (canister mounted) don't run at all when they fail. If you don't have a fuel pressure guage the aforementioned test won't tell you much but it should still start since the CP3 will actually pull from the tank but start there.

Let us know.
