No speed no power, limps along
No speed no power, limps along
Greetings all
Have a 2007 mega, 5.9, 4X4 automatic. 226,000 klms or roughly 120,000 miles on it. Very little heavy towing. More local slower driving on back roads, and highway driving up to speed.
At start-up the motor is very rough running, then smooths out. When I drive off it either takes off with the usual power but in the last two days sometimes limps away and gains power. If it drives off with regular power - when it warms up it goes to limp mode when it reaches normal operating temp. When this has happened it drives very slow and no speed beyond 30 MPH. Not using it now but need to know if I toasted the motor. Just added two new batteries.
I finally figured out how to get the codes. The codes that came up are as follows: P0713, P2149, P0483, P0305
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings all. I went through the search bar and found posts that identified the codes that came up on my dash. Now I need some warms days to get on these problems. Enjoy your ride.
Ok friends of diesel repair, I have identified all of the code malfunctions. What order would I go through to do the trouble shooting with the codes and rectify the issues. The codes and what they mean is as follows:
P0305 - Cylinder 5 Misfire
P0483 - Cooling Fan Speed
P0713 - Trans Temp Sensor too High, 4 speed automatic, read for high voltage greater than 3.76 volts
P2149 - Fuel Injector Group 2 Supply voltage circuit , Injector Harness - ECM reads this as a short.
I've done brakes, bearings, seals, U joints and this type of work on the engine is new to me and your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ohm test the injector wiring harness to injectors, most likely bad connections where wires pass thru valve cover gasket. ohm test injectors also, should all read about the same resistance, usually .3 ohms. Replace gasket if any resistance is found in wiring.
Greetings BigIron. A kind word of appreciation and thanks for your direction. As mentioned the electrical stuff, injectors and fuel delivery stuff are a new thing for me. I'm waiting for a friend to drop by who has the Meter Gauge. I'm wondering - if the test is done when the motor is running, and are the sensors / plugs disconnected when they are checked. And is a teat done on each pin...? Any additional information is greatly appreciated.

Follow this diagnostic test for P2149 and it should help you find problem. I would start first with valve cover wiring. I very seldom see problems with engine wiring harness to ECM. Disconnect wires from injectors and ohm test each injector, they should all read the same resistance.

I received two numbers for injectors and maybe someone with more experience and knowledge can answer this for me.
1. Cummins parts # Bosch HPCR 526 3316 PX ceramic tip
2. Bosch part # 0986 435 505 906 For 04.5 to 07 on 5.9 cummins.
Are these the same injectors and numbered differently or are they different injectors...? Clarification would be appreciated.
