No heat ?
No heat ?
I have an 05 and it takes forever for it to heat up. You can let it idol for an hour and it still doesn't get warm. I was wondering if anyone had a good solution for this. I was thinking about just plain old cardboard or maybe some grill inserts. Thanks for any help fellas.

Could be thermostat stuck open but even still should have heated up at idle? How cold is it where u are?
Also, a stuck valve that directs hot water to the heater core. Could be bypassed to check, i don't know where the valve is on the CTD but usually its on the firewall, follow the heater hoses.
Well lately it has been single digits in the mornings and has been in the teens during the day, but still it should heat up more. I guess I will have to check into one of those covers. I was hoping somebody was having the same problem and had a fix for it.

Thanks, I remember reading about it now.
I am about to do the vent tank mod and now I gotta look into the heater valve mod.

btw, back on topic, Im thinking thermostat stuck open now or he could be low on rad fluid?
mine takes eons to heat up at idle....its just not working hard enough to produce real heat i dont think. (then again, its -25 C here today...) If you want real heat look into an Espar Hydronic coolant heater, i think its a D5 you'd be after. I'm way to cheap though....
Get yourself a cold front or a piece of cardboard to close off part of your airflow on cold days. This will heat up your truck better, but do not expect it to be a really warm unless you are driving down the road. Mine will only start to build up heat until I go down the road for about 10-20 minutes. Otherwise it will remain moderately cool.

mine takes along time to warmup just idleing too. Last night it got down to -28C and she fired right up without being pluged in
running synthetic oil helpes. It sounds like the thermo is stuck open but one thing I do to get mine to keep some heat is slide a piece of cardboard down right in front of the rad between the the oil coolers and rad and block the whole rad off. Works great at these temps and just watch temps when towing or the weather warms and if it starts to get hot just pull it out and toss it into tool box.

Thanks fellas. I kind of figured it might be in their nature. I was going to do the cardboard, or find some kind of grill inserts. It definitely is a good cold starting motor, just takes forever for heat.
