No Crank-FYI

Hi, guys-this is my first post and I thought I would pass on some information that may be helpful. Approx a year ago, I shut off my '06, manual 6-speed, when I went to fire it up, it would not crank. I eventually found the neutral switch had self destructed.

This last week, I was towing my 5th wheel to Florida, stopping in Ohio for fuel, the starter hesitated a few times, then fired up. After parking for the night, I tried to start the CTD and again No Crank. Thinking it was again the neutral switch I swapped it out, still No Crank.

I then contacted Buckeye Automotive in Dayton, OH (None of the dealers in the area had a diesel mechanic). Matt worked on it all day Saturday and finally decided the starter had failed. On Sunday, he replaced the starter, still No Crank. However, with the new starter installed, we could get it to fire up and run by pulling the starter relay (under the fuse box) and jump one of the pins in the socket (the one closest to the clip, runs to the solenoid). I drove the rest of the way to Fla using a little jumper wire to the positive post on the battery. The wire that was supposed to be hot in the starter relay socket was not.

Once back home, took it to my local dealer and they found a fuse blown in the starter circuit. Apparently when the starter went out, it blew the fuse.

I thought this was such a strange situation that I would share with you guys.

That fuse has been around for some time. Occasionally the starter sol will pull excess current(???) and eventually blow fuse. I replaced fuse with five amp higher and new starter contacts. Been trouble free for two years now. Good to bring up occasionally.

I'm with Super Googan. It's a blown fuse but we're not telling you where it is.

I'm ok with that though I deal with it everyday at work. The day guy will work on one of the machines and if I'm lucky he'll mention he had problems with a machine. Never which one where or what the problem is.

From the shorted wire thread in 3rd gen drivetrain...(it's a sticky for a reason)

STARTER WIRE vs. STARTER BRACKET
No-start condition - From driver side wheel well - Trace yellow wire from the starter as it passes the starter bracket... check for chafing.

Check the wire as many have noted it chaffing and rubbing on the bracket causing a no start.

Excuse me, I had no intention of posting the "King of All FYI's". I apologize for leaving off the location of the actual fuse-#22 in the PDC, according to the dealers worksheet.
I was simply posting what at first seemed to be very similar symptons (NO Crank) but were actually very different fixes. That is All.
