No Cat...what next
No Cat...what next
My first post, and the reason why I joined this forum....just bought a new-to-me 2006 3500 dually. Replacing my 01 2500 5-spd manual, which I really liked, but I'm eventually looking to tow a 5th wheel and wanted the stability (and payload/towing capacity) that a dually has to offer. Everything I looked at on the truck passed all of my pain points so I purchased at what I believe was a decent deal. However....there always seems to be that 'however' clause....
I went to get the emissions tested and found out that the PO has straight-piped it, which I don't mind, but I didn't think to check for a cat. So emissions can't be done (in my county)...the guy I bought it from lives in a different county and no emissions are required - my county is one of the luck (ugh) few that require emissions (double-ugh).
So....options?
1) Register in another county (I actually do have property in another county that doesn't require emissions but it's just land only....)
2) Add a new cat
3) Find a cat, gut it, and install...as I understand that with/without a cat seems to make no difference on the 5.9 for the 06 model - that basically, it's kind of on there as a 'token' emissions compliance (but no O2 sensor to worry about and all)
Any helpful thoughts??

I would register in a different county. You should be able to get a PO box in the county you own land in and have your registration done there. If you need to prove a physical address, you should be able to look it up on your county's map server and get all the info you need.
