Just wondering if cats are required on 3rd gens? I have heard yes and no, but want to make sure.

Depends on SMOG in your area and the laws????? If you have to smog your truck leave it on there, if not make the cat run away!

I know here in Vegas you need to leave it on. But my freind goes to someone he knows, hands him some extra cash, and he just passes him.

The 04's did not have a factory cat, the 04.5 had one.

Bluesteel, how do they go about smogging in Nevada? Is it the same process as gassers?

Disgusting, furry little mammals. Always licking themselves & making everybody sneeze, thinking they are better than any other animal. Rats with a lucky break from society.

Just kidding.
Hu-hu-hu.

In CA we don't have to get smogged, but we can still be inspected, and if we remove the cat, well, it's buku bucks outta my wallet for the HUGE ticket as well as for a new cat! May as well leave it, the new cats are not nearly as restrictive as the older ones, plus you'll feel warm and fuzzy inside for doing your part to save our ozone!

The latest Diesel Power magazine had an article on a Duramax where they dynoed it stock, then with a cat-back, then with a turbo-back. From stock to cat-back, the difference was huge. From cat to no cat was surprisingly minimal. I did wish they had an EGT gauge going, though.

If it came with a Catylitic Converter it's against the law to remove it.

well i just opened my door and let my cat run out the door!!!

they can only give you a ticket if its not there and they are looking for it. if you hollow it out then it still gives the appearence that the cat is in place! they would have to take you exhaust system apart to see if it was hollowed out or not!

Starting with 04.5, they are required per federal emmissions regulations.
Cheers
