Cat or, no Cat?
Cat, or no Cat?
I just purchased a well used 94 Dodge dually. Just curious if I were to temporarily remove the CAT would I notice any difference in the way it ran? I see a lot of guys running no cat or mufflers at all and they seem like they are happy with them but not sure if they are blowing smoke up my arss or not? I heard the cats can get plugged up but not sure how I would know? Thanks for any advice.
Anyway, if Kitty is tired, put a good 4" Turbo back system on and enjoy. My Kitty is getting perilously close to falling off, looking at the MBRP or Diamondeye system myself.

what state are you in? Wise to keep in the sunshine state with inspections on older rigs, wise to remove in any other state. The idea of a cat on a diesel is just crazy, My father burns around 10,000 gallons of JP8 a day and there are no cats either of those engines

Metal Twister:
I have a 1996 Dodge CTD and took my cat off at about 50,000 miles. I noticed a distinct difference in the way the truck ran although it not give me anymore power on the dyno. You will know when they get plugged up as the truck will run poorly and feel like it has lost power.

I understand... But I just bought the truck and have no idea if it is weak on power or not. Ive never driven a diesel until this rig so I have nothing to compare to. Im sure I need to adjust the tranny bands as the tranny seems kind of slow but still shifts on Que. PO says the new rebuilt tranny has about 4500 miles on it and it needs a fluid change and the bands adjusted. I'm still trying to get a feel for what is normal and what isn't. Thanks for the input here... Guess what I am taking from this is that if the guts fell out of the CAT that it would be a lot better than being clogged up. In fact it sound like if the guts fell out it would be an improvement in any case.

I hear what you saying Sir. I wish we lived closer as I have a CAT Delete Pipe I could let you try to see if removing the CAT changes the performance of your truck.
You can do it yourself by measuring the length of the CAT and inserting a 3 1/2"-4" "straight aluminized pipe" where the CAT sits and see if you notice a change. One of our banner advertisers used to sell the CAT delete pipe. Go to the top of the forums page and click on the "GENO'S GARAGE" Banner.
Good luck Sir.
Yep, good thought... I'm thinking that it could be cleaned out and reinstalled if it hasn't already been done. Either way It wont get away from me just encase it needs to go back on some day.
