Newbie question on engine and powertrain warranties

Hello! I am considering buying a new 2006 or 2007 2500 CTD. I have searched all over, including this site, and all I can find is that the warranty for the truck is 3 yr./36000. At one time I thought that I read that the engine was warrantied to something like 5/100k, or 7/100k. Same for transmission.

Is there a warranty, other than extended warranties, for the engine/transmission that goes more than the 3 yr/36k on new trucks?

Thanks!!

I believe it is 7/70000 drivetrain and 5/100000 for engine. Which I guess would make it 7/100000 for engine as well. Do a search on here, its in multiple threads.

I wanted to know the tranny warranty as well since it looks like everyone uses it.

Re: engine and powertrain warranties

Thanks to all for taking the time to assist me. The warranty issue concerns me, especially for the powertrain. I have been thinking about the 48RE auto tranny. But, if I only get warranty to the 3 yr./36k mile point for the transmission, some of the price advantage that Dodge has over, say the Chevy, is eroded. Chevy quotes a powertrain warranty for 5 yr./100k; also has 5 yr./100k for some parts for the engine. But I do not want a Chevy or a Ford --- body style, engine, ground clearance concerns for Chevy; 6.0L engine woes for the Ford, among other things.

For me, I tow a 6,000 lb. trailer here and there to haul stuff. Additionally, my wife and I would like to get a travel trailer in the 8000 lb (loaded) area. Might go for a light 5th wheel as long as its loaded weight is not over 10,000 lbs. Bottom line: I really want a Dodge 2500 or 3500 truck with the CTD.

I do not mean to take this thread in another direction, but I see that I could buy a used "Certified Pre-Owned" truck that has a limited 8 yr./80,000 powertrain warranty.

Hence, my choices:
a) used, out of warranty
b) used, certified pre-owned
c) new, 3/46 warranty; 5/100 engine
d) new, factory warranty as above, but, ugghhh!!, pay high price for extended warranty

Again, thanks!!
