Newbie 600 question
On the front cover over my Maintenance Logbook it says on the schedule "B" side.
"use this schedule "B" side of the logbook if you usaully operate your vehicle under one or more of the following conditions:
1. Day or Night temp below 0 deg (32 deg f)
2. Stop and go driving
3. Extensive engine idling
4. Driving in dusty conditions
5. short trips of less than 16 km (10 Miles)
6. more than 50% of your driving is at sustained high speeds during hot weather, above 32 deg c (90 deg f)
7. Trailer Towing
8. Taxi, police or delivery service (commercial service)
9. Off-road or desert operation
Note: MOST vehicles are operated under the conditions listed for schedule "B"
The schedule "B" says change your oil every 3750 miles.
It is very hard I would say for anyone to make schedule "A". I cant even just goto the grocery store and be in schedule "A".
If you got a book that says something different I would go to your dealer and complain. That could turn into a real warranty problem if something happens
And the part about California Engines at the bottom with the +. If you look under schedule "A" it is also at the bottom so I believe that it is ment for something else and would imagine people from California would know something about that.
This only applies to the 2004.5 325/600 Cummins

Guess we are not looking at the same books, because I show the same symbol and fine print that you are talking about in both schedules A and B. Secondly if I went by that by this book I would never change my oil at all due to the fact they all have that little + at the end of all the oil changes.
But there is a diamond looking symbol that says for tier 1 305 hp engines the only reason I debate that is the 600's are 325 hp engines. Probably need to call Dealer and have them clarify that.
Not trying to pull any chains, just trying to make sense of the tricky schedule.

Well im gonna get a hold of someone in service to try and sort this thing out. I would love to stretch my oil changes out a bit more, maybe around yours looks good, but would be nice to know I can go a bit farther if need be.
As for the book, no surprise here, I work for DaimlerChrysler and know for a fact they will run all there copies or parts before running a new change.
I will post when I hear something about this.

Reduced Service
The Cummins 600's cleaner combustion results in reduced sooting of lubrication oil, allowing Cummins to double the oil change intervals to 15,000 miles for schedule A and 7,500 for schedule B (towing) for all 50 states to help reduce the cost of ownership.
The Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel has a self priming fuel filter as well: this means you can easily restart the engine after routine fuel filter changes (or if you run out of fuel).

There is the answer, On the Cummins web site.
Guess we all got old books.

Im really not having a MPG problem, computer says about 14.5 and hand calculated at 15.6.
I used to drive a 94 V10 gasser and was only getting 10 if the wind was blowing behind me
So all that said im very happy. Even most of the guys that have been doing this for awhile report the same thing when they bought there other trucks at the beginning. The mileage will improve after it has some good break in miles.

My over head has never, never ever seen more then 13.1 no matter how easy I drive it. That being said and to stay on topic, I think I will do 1st oil change at 3000 and 5000 after that with either delo 400 or rotella, fleetguard filter.

It is confusing the way it is worded. For me, it's going to be every 5000 miles, or four months, whichever comes first.
They were thinking ahead
