New guy with questions
Hey everyone my name is Joe and I just joined the site. I hate to start with questions but I need some advice. I just bought a 04 Dodge with a 24V Cummins engine and it needed a turbo. I just ordered one but before I took it apart I noticed a lot of oil type smoke comming out of the filler cap once removed. My question is will a bad turbo cause the oil to pressurize in the crank case ? I figure if the oil is going into the exhaust then why wouldn't the exhaust go into the oil. Any opinions would be appreciated. Joe

First of all, WELCOME
The turbo will not push gasses into the crankcase. What you are seeing is engine blowby from the rings. It's normal for diesels to have blowby. That's why the oil turns black so fast. If you have allot of oil, then you may have an issue, but make sure all the breathers are open. If it's still there, there is a jar on the drivers side mounted next to the bottom of the rad. Make sure that's empty. If it's gone, don't worry about it unless you have allot of oil spotting

Thanks for the breather info. It does seem to be excessive blow by to me but I am new to the whole diesel engine thing. If my gas race engine did that and the oil looked like my trucks oil does I would be changing engines.
