New Guy Questions

Greetings all,

I've been lurking for about 2 weeks since buying my first Diesel. I'm a long time Mopar nut, but this is my first venture into the world of low RPM's and black smoke (unless you count that Holley carb I built when I was 15...)! I have a few stupid questions if you guys don't mind hooking me up:

My truck is a 2006 4x4 Larmie Quad Cab auto.
  1. Is my engine the 325hp 610ft/lbs version?
  2. My friend bought a 5.9 the same day, but his is an 07 (not a 6.7). Are the engines the same?
  3. I'm looking into the aftermarket computers (Edge, bullydog, etc...). Are there major differences between them and which is preferred?
  4. Are the fuel pump problems on the pre 2003 trucks still plaguing my 2006?

Nice web forum BTW. I'm slowly coming up to speed on things like Crazy Larry, BullyDog, and some of the other interesting terms here. I'll be using my truck for daily transportation and as a tow vehicle for the car in my avatar (may be a boat in a few years as well).

Thanks for the help!

Greg

Thanks for the info! Can someone explain the lift pump concept. I have one pump (high pressure) at the engine and one in the tank correct? Which one is the lift and how much is an aftermarket upgrade? Also, does the addition of a lift pump void the factory warranty?

The Charger has a 440 with eddy heads and a lot of nitrous. I'm in the process of back halfing the car for some 33x18.5's.

Thanks again,

Greg

lift pump on your rig is in the tank. it supplies fuel from the tank through the fuel filter to the injection pump(CP3) inlet.

Thanks guys. Searching the performance section for lift pumps and programmers now. That edge with the GPS and Back Up camera looks pretty cool! There looks to be mixed opinions on exhaust and intakes. I have no desire to make it crazy fast, but it goes against my grain to leave a vehicle stock... ha ha

Just ditch the muffler in favor of straight pipe and your exhaust is done! Drop in an Amsoil EAA189 factory replacement air filter and the intake is done!

The lift pump is a low pressure pump (less than 10 p.s.i.) that supplies the high pressure CP3 injector pump (up to 26,ooo p.s.i.) with fuel. It's in the tank and does a decent job, but start adding fueling boxes and it has trouble keeping up with demand. Glacier Diesel Power makes a nice upgrade, as does FASS and a couple others.
