I have about 14,000 miles on my truck and I'm starting to hear a kind of knock that I have not heard before. If it were a gasser, I would check my valves/tappets. Is this normal for a Diesel? I didn't hear it the first 14,000 miles!

 

Does it knock when its cold/warm/hot? Did you change fuel sources?

FWIW, mine knocks periodically for no apparent reason but then the knock goes away.

 

It doesn't knock all the time. It seems to knock more warmed up.
I did buy fuel from a different place a few weeks ago, but I have refuled since.

I am getting a little more noise from mine with some miles on it - - sounds like tappets in a gasser. Mechanic said all he has heard have done the same thing once they get about 10,000 on them. Now, if I could only get that drive train rattle out of it I would be happy.

Mine started making knocking, rattling noises, and had a vibration after 10k, cold or warm, but worse when cold.

I added 10-12 ounces of Rotella DFA to the last load of fuel and it all pretty much went away. I still have a slight tappet noise when first starting in morning....but goes away after about 1 minute. Not going to worry about it.

I'm gonna use the DFA on every fillup from now on...just a thought!
