Napa Single Mass Flywheel Conversion

The two flywheels are connected with spring dampeners I'm told. The noise is the two flywheels resonating. Mine's done it from new. It goes away with the conversion, only to be replaced with different noises.

I believe the stock clutch is fine for 99% of Dodge Cummins owners.I put 160K on my 03, mostly towing and had no issues with the clutch or transmission.I believe lots of money is wasted on after=market clutches and solid flywheels. I hate the heavy-duty after market clutch and solid flywheel in my 06 2500,whats the point, how much can you haul with 3/4 ton pickup to need these units and the noise is driving me nuts.

In my town (No emissions testing) half the diesel pickups on the road smoke or haze when accelerating. Therefore they have added fueling and are not stock and the clutch and DM flywheel is the weak link. Simple as that. Not sure if the early CR engines had DM flywheel or not. Mine is '06 and has it. Maybe was put in with the G56 trans mid '05 and not NV5600 trans.
DM will eventually give out no matter how you treat your truck just like a stock clutch will eventually wear out, some sooner, some later. I believe the SM flywheel with upgraded clutch is cheaper than OEM DM replacement. If you have high miles and your clutch is worn I would bet you not want to replace the clutch and not refresh the DM system when you see it. The ONLY advantage of the DM is reduced noise vibration harshness (NVH) at critical rpms, which is around 1250 in our application. A Chrysler engineer has made detailed comments in that respect on this board previously.
I worked for CAT in a truckshop and our Ford PS service trucks lunched their DM flywheels and broke the bellhousing which was part of the trans case (Like G56). $6,500.00 repair with new DM and new trans.
The DM flywheel has a bearing in it. When, not if, it fails the flywheel will become unbalanced and that is how the bellhousing gets destroyed. Dodge is same basic design....

Finished the install of my Napa clutch this weekend, did the rear main while i was in there. And i have to say that the only diff i have noticed so far is the feel of the clutch pedal, seems a bit stiffer, the instructions did say that air can get into the slave cylinder lines when doing the swap. can't bleed them so i've been told to just wait a few days and the air should work its self out. does feel better, almost back to what the stock pedal felt like just two days earlier. so it must be working its way out.
No new noises or weird things, and for $420.65 the price was right! They say the clutches are rated for something like 100hp more. so an edge ez may be in the future.

hows the clutch holding up?

Well, I finally got the clutch put in a couple days ago. Only put on about 70 miles, but so far I'm happy. Got rid of the bad vibration at idle which I believe was caused by the dual mass flywheel. Haven't turned the Adrenaline back on yet. Figured I'd give it some break-in time first.
