My wonderful local dealer

Just a rant....

My dealer can't get my truck on his lift. He wants $85 to use a lift across the street to inspect my truck for the steering TSB. Another dealer poked his head under the truck and said it was not the bad arm, done deal.

My dealer said there is no grease point in the drive shaft. I found it and have been greasing it for three years.

My dealer quoted me $900 to replace the transmission solenoid to cure the 1-2 shift hunt. I said the TSB allows you .7 hours. He told me that was for WARRANTY WORK. He would figure 1.5 hours for me. I asked his rate. He said $85/hr. I told him $85 times 1.5 equals $128, and the solenoid is about $100.

He dropped his price to AROUND $550. I said you're way too high.

He said I'd also need fluid! Oooookay.... I use 8 quarts for a pan drop, figure about $8 a quart? Maybe $65 for fluid? He said he'd probably be able to do it for AROUND $300.

I need a new dealer....

I wouldn't know, I've never paid a dealer. I, on the other hand charge 24-36oz an hour, but I know the client quite well

Crooks, plain and simple...look elsewhere! Charge you for the use of a lift for "their" TSB...weird, the guy that checked mine got on one knee, looked under the truck and said all was well. ATF+4 is $4 at Wallywordl!

I just went into the dealer to see how much the 1-2 shift hunt fix would cost me. Just shy of $500 was his quote. Might as well buy a new valve body for that quote and that would take care of the problem. I'll live with the 1-2 geat hunt till I put in a new valve body.

They also wanted to charge me $160 to fill up my leaking A/C so they could see where it was leaking from. That would cost $14 and ten minutes of work. I said I'd put the fluid in myself and come back in a week so they could see where it was leaking from.

I hate working with the dealer service dept.

I would call the zone rep. and ask them if there is a reason one of their remaining Dealers does not have a Lift capable of raising your truck.

Seems kind of crazy........

They don't call them the ******* for nothing!
(I know there will be 7 *'s right above this sentence!)

I called 3 shops before I did my new clutch just to see, even though I have trust issues with repair shops! To replace the clutch....labor only. None of them, 1 was a dealer, knew what I was talking about when I asked for a Southbend Con OFE clutch, so I asked for labor only.
I was quoted........make sure you're sitting down............
$1200
$1600 and
$2100!

I asked one shop why so expensive (the 2100 one) and he explained to me that it takes alot of time to open up the transmission to access the clutch!
A buddy and I did it in 8 hrs and that was under the truck with a trans jack. We're not pros by any means and that included dinner and a few beer breaks.

Sorry to hear you don't have good help

Yesterday I went to the dealer for the first time to reflash my truck for the tires and to get the steering TSB checked. I only got charged for the flash. With the horror stories I've heard and some I've gone through myself, it is refreshing to go a capable place.

Good luck finding who you need

I take my truck to Frank Boucher in Janesville, WI. They have been good for what it's worth. I have been going there since 2006. It looks like an hour drive for you, so might be out of your range.
Here in Rockford there is no service for diesel Rams and the next closest town of Belvidere had the snottiest people there. It was a dealer much like the one you are having problems with.

You know it is a shame they operate like this. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that they would probably bring in more business with reasonable rates and better customer service practices. They really will take advantage of every single person they can. I would and will let my vehicle sit in the driveway and rot before I take it to a dealer for anything. heck I would buy another vehicle before taking a broken one to a dealer. (unless it is under warranty since I already paid for that).
We have some good folks on this board that work at dealers too bad the dealers have the reputation they do.

Thanks for that tip! Boucher wouldn't be too far away.... Where I live, everything is a long drive.

And yes RonP, dealers that don't care are a shame. Like when you tell them you have death wobble and they say they've never heard of it. BS

Or they tell you there is no lube point in the driveshaft. BS

Or they tell you the 10 micron fuel filters are just fine for your CR truck. BS

So yeah, telling me I needed to pay a lifting fee so they could verify I have the correct pitman arm and they could pull the notice off my Dodge file was really.... you guessed it.... BS

I drove 45 minutes to the Watertown dealer. They verified my steering easily, but still said they never heard of death wobble....

Funny- our Chrysler dealership must have a clue. They have signs stuck in the ground all around the property- "new, lower shop rates" and "new, lower parts prices". I just don't know how much lower...
