My tranny or clutch is knocking.

I've got a new noise, it is intermittent. It's a slow knock that will only happen when the clutch is out with engine idling. It is not noticable going down the highway. This truck has the original clutch with 127000 hard miles so I'm wondering if something finally gave. The oil looked fine. It only had very fine metal floating in it and there was very little. Oil was amsoil MTL.

Mine has the same knock at idle when the temps get pretty cold. Goes away once it warms up or when the clutch is disengaged.
This was a problem with the early models and the fix was to replace the clutch plate with tighter springs. It's not a real problem other than the noise.

Mine just started this after I've had it for two years. I did find that it is worse while sitting on a grade. I'll pull the tranny cuz I need to put in the Con fe I've had for a year anyway. I hope it's in the clutch. Tahnks for the input.

I got the tranny out today and I think the clutch is the culprit. It is worn pretty bad and has alot of play in the disk. Throwout bearing has some movement and a chewed up small lock washer was in the bottom of the bell housing. Everything aboput the tranny looks and feels great, hopefully I'll get it back in tommorow and go for a test drive.

The NV5600's are very noisy, as well as the NV4500. Mine has a small rattlying noise every time when I accelerate slowly at low RPM's.

Yeah mine has always had that noise below 1000 rpms but this was an actual knock you could hear very plainly under the truck and even was easy to hear in the truck. I'm pretty sure the clutch is the culprit and I'll find out hopefully later today.

I got the new clutch put in and the noise is gone. This con fe is not as grabby as I anticipated but it seems to hold well. My clutch pushes much easier now which seems weird but i'll take it.

This is the reason for the DMDF in 2005.

Yeah I thought it was nice. I take back what I said about the Con FE now it is fairly grabby and is kind of difficult to let it out easy because it wants to go.
