Larger Tires

Hey there I'm new to the site and I'm pleased to have found it. I have a 2004 Ram 2500 4X4 4 door with an 8' bed. I'm in the market for new tires and want to have them installed on my stock rims. I'd like to go as big as possible without doing and lifting, leveling, etc. What can I get away with? I have my eye on a set of BF Goodrich TA KO's 285/70/17 will these be ok? Can I go larger?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can go up to 315's with no or very minimal rubbing.

Search on the Toyo Open Country 285/75/R17. They are E load rated, come in AT and MT versions and fit the stock rims perfectly. They are not quite 34" high.

I just installed a set of the MTs, and so far, I am quite pleased.

the 315's rubbed on mine until i put the leveling kit on...but they did not rub by much without...not enought that it really bothered me...i would pull up the exact dimensions on the tires your looking at cause they will very a lot....the cooper tires on mine arent exactly 35 tall..there actually like 34.6 or somethin...but that would make a difference in how much one brand would rub over others

I have heard many running 315s on stock height without any trouble at all. Personally, I ran the 315s with a 2 inch spacer and never had any issues. I think the 315 works out to be 34.36 or so tall.

I have 47,000 miles on my current set of 285/70/17 BFG AT KOs. I run 65psi and rotate every 7,500. They are a great tire if you do some mild offroading and still want decent tread life. My truck spends alot of time on the beach and aired-down BFG ATs are perfect for soft beach sand. I probably have 10-12k of tread left on mine. Compared to 315s, 285s have a very minimal effect on MPG and will not rub in any situation. BFG also has new size of 305/65/17 that is the same height as a 285 and the same width as a 315.

Thanks for all the information and opinions guys. I went with the BFGR TA KO's 285/70/17's. I love those tires, got a set on my '71 Suburban too. Towed the airboat to the Everglades and back last night and love the way the truck rides with them on.
My Dad has 70,000 on a set he has on his H2(trying to convice him he's got the good out of 'em and to get a new set).

Thank you all again.
