This is my first Cummins and 3rd Diesel...but it knocks when it starts cold for about 10 knocks...then it quiets down..is that a problem?? ??? ???

 

Sounds normal to me. You should hear a pre-03.... : You can hear the fuel pump buzzing when it's really cold. Have you tried the block heater for a few hours on cold nights?

 

It was only in the high 30's...so I did not plug it in...cold is a relative term in Texas...below 40...thanks

it was -40 this morning, windchills were in the -50's.......truck was plugged in but man did she knock for a bit till it warmed up <br><br>my dad's had diesel cars/trucks/tractors all my life and they all knock like an SOB untill they warm up enough to run smooth when it's real cold out ..........

 

My is now knocking only at 1500 to 1800 RPM???

 

I never had a problem with knocking. But I keep my truck in a wark places with the block heater on.<br>But I say it is the cold. Just let her warm up for awhile before driving anyware.
