My 48RE is not downshifting right??
I pulled my 8000# 5th wheel week before last and made a 700 mile trip (empty) last week and I started noticing that when I pulled up to a stop that if I didn't count to 10 the truck would still be in 2nd gear when I started. If I waited for about 8 sec. then I could feel the truck drop down to 1st gear. The first time it happened I thought someone had bumped me in the rear end, but no one was there. Any ideas what's going on? Truck transmission was serviced at 30K and now has 50K on it. 2004.5, 48RE stock.

I just towed my travel trailer over the weekend and noticed the same thing with mine. I just thought it was my prodigy dropping to 0 then back up again. Who really knows though. I just have my pressure governer replaced though.

Governor pressure sensor and transducer. Very common problem. There may be some flash updates available, but with out any info in your sig. I can't look them up. Fill out your sig. under the user cp near the top left of page.

Those parts are relatively inexpensive and go out frequently on the 47RE.
If the 48RE is same as the 47RE... there is one other thing worth knowing. There is, in my experience, NO 2nd gear downshift. They go from third to first if you fall below 10 mph. It's the bad pressure sensor/transducer that keeps it from going to first.
I often pull the shifter into 2nd if I'm under 20 mph (but not under 10 mph) and turning up a hill or just heavy and need the lower gear to accelerate. That way it does not 'slam' into first when I apply torque.... or stay in third and lug! I shift up to drive around 30 mph.
Good luck at the dealer.

Thanks for the help. The dealer is looking at it first thing Sat. Service tech that I talked to said that it was the pressure transducer.

Are the governor pressure sensor and transducer parts hard to replace? Does it take a "qualified" tranny specialist at the dealership to do the r/r? Just asking as I may need the same parts replaced on my '06 and don't want to bring it to the dealership as I have an after-market v/b and t/c installed (thus, no warranty).

If you can change the tranny fluid, you can change these sensors. After dropping the pan, there are ( I think) 4 torx screws and 4 7/16 bolts and the rest is pretty much self explanitory. Do a search because the info has been posted before.
