Muffler removal

I recently got my muffler elimination pipe from genos for my 600 cummins, and was wondering how I should go about removing the muffler??? Can I just take the clamps off and it will just slide off or will it be harder than that??? If I have to cut it how do I go about doing that????? Please, any suggestions from you guys would be very appreciated!

The problem is the factory clamps are put on so tight that the pipe becomes crimped together. I have heard that lots of heat will help in removing the pipes. That and a Big Hammer. Good luck.

cut the clamps, get a saw and cut the muffler off and then put the pipe in. You can find pieces of 1/2" thick steel to make your own clamps and weld them back on
its probably easiest to go to an exhaust shop because it took even them an hour to do it with my truck on a lift and them having a saw and everything.

Try to unbolt the clamps and save cutting them as a last resort unless your new pipe came with new clamps.

Cut 3 slits in the outside pipe with a thin cutting wheel on an angle grinder or cutoff saw. Be careful to only cut through the outside pipe. You could probably do it with a dremel tool also. Also be careful to cut the slits shorter than the length of the inside pipe. Since you won't know the length of the inside pipe, I'd start with about 1" slits and make them progressively longer until the muffler comes off easily.

just did it

Just cut slits in mine the other day and took of the cat and muffler that way. Easy to put back on later if I need to for some reason.
