Muffler Delete

Going to get rid of the muffler. I've heard that it is possible to remove the muffler w/o chiseling it apart (although it will take some heat & wrestling to do so). Is this true? I want to keep my stock muffler if I ever have to put it on for state inspections, or don't like the way it sounds without it.

I suppose if you heated it where it is crimped onto the pipe by the clamp you could wrestle it off. Be prepared to spend some time at it though. I just made two horizontal cuts in mine with the 3" cut off grinder and it came off without too much trouble. I could reinstall it if I had to.

Took me about 45 minutes by myself. I pretty much ended up hacking it off (without damaging the inside pipes by the time is was said a and done with.
I tried the slitting method, making nice cuts down the muffler tubing to let it spread off.

Didn't work, I moved on to the air chisel and large hammer method.

Well, you know what it sounds like Mark. I just got done towing 500 miles yesterday and had very minimal drone and that was only when I was on it really hard trying to see how high the EGTs would go. (1150 degrees was my tops with the Quad on the 30hp setting!)
I was able to cut mine off but still save the muffler. I did have to cut a couple of inches off each end when I was done and i figure I can always get a couple of adapters to put on the ends so I can use it again if needed. I don't see it happening though. I love the way it sounds....

My buddy and i took mine off with a little propane torch, we heated the crimps and wiggled and pulled with some elbow grease and it came off, the whole thing took about a hour and a half! I put the jack that comes with the truck with a board on top under the pipe infront of the muffler that way when we were wigglein things around we didnt put to much down force on the turbo!

Major pia, if you're alone, I got the trusty saws all and had done with it.
Done abot 4,000mls - love it. Try and keep your foot out of it, I dare you!

Try RPM - $45.00 plus handling, pre-bent fits like a glove.

Definitely a major PIA. On mine the stock clamps crimped the tubing really bad. Why is DC using cheapo muffler clamps on a stock exhaust system anyway?

The result is so worth it though! It sounds perfect...just like I would expect a nice aftermarket muffler to sound (I still have the cat and resonator though).

When I did mine, I just undid the Ubolts, and started rocking it back and forth. I held onto the tailpipe and rocked it back and forth to loosen and bend the joint where the tailpipe goes into the muffler, after some time it loosened enough to pull off. Same for the front end of the muffler, except without as much leverage, so I ended up placing a piece of 2X4 against the edge of the muffler and hitting it with a mallet to get it the rest of the way off. Pipes had no damage, and neither does the muffler.

WLK-33224 Look up this clamp at www.summitracing.com . Even if you tore up the old pipe some ,these clamps should make it work.

Yea, I know I heard yours. I guess that I should have said "if my better half does not like the way it sounds" Anyway, I want to remove the mufler & have it salvagable if possible.

By the way Dodgezilla, thanks for meeteing me that morning & getting me your extra set of lug nuts. The Dodge hub caps on the H2s look cool!

Pulled everything off at a local shop for $100, wish i hadn't. I don't like the drone at about 2000 rpm. But like i said, i took the cat off too, shop said they plug really fast on these trucks. Probably should've left the cat on.

Mark, just don't tell her that your doing it. Chances are she won't even notice. You will be driving down the road 6 months from now and she'll comment "Isn't your truck a little louder than it used to be?". You just say, "Ya, it's finally starting to break in." She will probably never bring it up again.....

I'm glag the lugnuts worked out for you. You definitely needed to get those H2 caps off the front........
