Testing on a dyno shows no increase in power, in fact, you get a DECREASE in power removing the baffles.

What you are noticing is an increase in sound. And with an aftermarket filter most guys notice an increase in silica levels, and an increase in ring failure.

I notice my truck runs better after I wash it.

Really? Why would you lose power by taking something out that is restricting airflow. Not that I am doubting you, because I'm no expert, but it just seems backwards. Also I'm not really noticing any increase in sound unless I really put the pedal on the floor and it shifts at high rpms.

I believe you are just noticing a placebo effect......baffles don't restrict, they direct the air flow.......taking the silencer ring out only increases the audible sound of the turbo.

Ring failure = Rings.... Failing.

Aftermarket filters are known to let more dust through than stock filters. If you do UOA (used oil analysis) keep an eye on your silica levels. Silica = sand = dust = ring failure.

The baffles direct air flow. Baffles are used in commercial heating ductwork ALL the time, as they direct the air and reduce turbulence which causes a DROP in airflow. Guys right here on this forum have dynoed their trucks with the baffles and without, and found more air flow WITH the baffles. (or was it on a flow bench... it was a while back, do a search, I'm getting old... ).

So while you guys think you are gaining power and mileage and freeing up the engine, the test data says otherwise.

Just as guys that put magnets on their fuel lines and SWEAR their mileage went up. It's all in your noggin.

Run what you want, but at least know what to watch for and what is happening. And seriously, watch those silica levels! You can search for 'rings' on this forum and find a LOT of guys running aftermarket intake filters that damage their rings, which damages their cylinders, which damages their pistons and sometimes their cranks and blocks.

Good luck!

HA! You scoff! Just try it and you will see it runs better and you will sit a little higher in the saddle besides! I swear it works.

I keep telling myself that for the measly $10 the car wash costs that I will promise to wash the truck once a week, but whenever I get to town it's usually raining or the roads are full of snow and salt, or something keeps me from enjoying a clean truck. I have washed the truck in the rain however... I got a lot of looks from people thinking I am nuts I suppose, but what the heck. I wanted the top layer of crud off and the rain softens up the mud and bugs so the wash gets a lot off.

Enjoy a clean truck as long as you can!
