More 48RE info...dual temp gauges and difference

While I had the tranny apart for the shift kit I installed a Mag-Hytec pan and 2nd tranny temp gauge just for kicks...what can a say...I'm a numbers geek, or a data ***** as my buddy Steve calls me. I wanted to see how much "cooling" the tranny cooler actually does.

First temp gauge has the sending unit installed in the cooler return line (Diesel Manor DM-CLG3). The gauge never moves much. In fact, it rarely goes past 105 or 110°. I installed the 2nd sending unit in the port provided in the Mag-Hytec pan. Depending on the ambient temperature I am seeing 140 to 150° in the pan.

The difference puzzled me and made me think that maybe my first gauge wasn't reading right, so I made an extension for the sending unit wire and swapped gauges/sending units. Lo and behold...I see the same thing, about a 50° difference between the 2 sending unit locations. The gauges are reading correctly. The other day was hot out...about 95°, I was doing some city driving and finally saw fluid temps go past 180°...in the pan...but the fluid coming from the cooler was only showing about 110°. Pan temp returned back down to 140 to 150° after a bit of highway driving.

Conclusion: these factory transmission fluid coolers do a great job.

As mentioned in another post, my tranny runs about 100 degrees above the ambient temp. That reading is not from the pan, but up in the tranny as read via the computer and the Edge Attitude, Juice controller.

The line that comes from the tranny to the air to fluid cooler up front has a themostat in it, in mine. Hearing what you said about temp coming from the cooler is interesting.
