Milage - To TSB or not?
My 2004.5 gets the 17.5 MPG overall. It is a stock 4X4 six speed SWB 3.73 rear 2500. When I say the 17.5 overall that is based on a hand calculation over every ounce of fuel that went in over it's 6100 mile life. My driving consists of 80% highway and 20% city (w/o too much traffic). My highway driving is right at 70 mph.
BTW, if I pick up the speed to 75 MPH my milage drops by over 1 mpg, and if I slow down to 65 MPH I gain about 1.5 mpg.
I do not have any white smoke or drivability problems.
So, should I get the milage TSB or not? Also, I heard that the ruck would be a little louder after the TSB (which from my perspective would be a good thing).
Thanks in Advance!

I had the "reflash" done about 3 weeks ago.. The OTC used to be on the low side when hand calculating.. The reflash now shows on the last two tanks 17.5= 17.43 vrs hand calc and the last tank showed 18 mpg on the OTC and 17.41 hand calc.. Power may be down "slightly" but the tech told me the truck will tow slightly stronger..17.4 mpg with 6200 miles I consider VERY GOOD considering this is a 1ton Dually with the 4:10s, 6speed manual, quad cab 4x4!!! When cold the truck will idle with a "pinging" noice, white smoke after 20 seconds of idle for a few minutes....My engine fell in the dates to be reflashed but not the "serial number?"...I drive about 15% city then hiway and keep it at 60 mph or under....

My mpg is unchanged from pre to post flash. 16.5 to 17.4 depending on driving. I do 78ish on the interstate. I get better in town than on the road. Also tried driving at 70 and only went up by .4 mpg so I went back to 75 - 78. The only change I noticed is the overhead is now close and it pings when you lightly stab and then back off (only when cold).
So... no harm, no improvement in mpg

I just had the flash done to my truck , my milage did improve!! but i did notice a bit of a loss in power not much . the trans shifts differant and seems to get into hi gear faster witch is a good thing .. over all the flash was good the truck still seems to smoke in the morning for 30 seconds or so it clears up the tech at the dealer said that it was a lean condition on start up and it was normal. but i had to tell the tech about all the updates as well so ??..... I also had the front drive shaft replaced the truck shuttered @ 75mph now with the new shaft in the front its nice.
I do have a strange sound coming from the trans or rear diff only cold its like a whining whistle it's gone after warm up anyone herd this ??

Mark, I was in the same boat as you, matter of fact I have almost the same truck as you and was getting almost the same MPG numbers. I had heard of the gains people were gettings, but didn't want to mess up a good thing. Well the curiosity got the best of me and I took my truck in to get flashed.
My experience has been close to I(owe)silver's. My miles per gallon did improve. I only have 2 tanks on the truck since the reflash. The day after I got my reflash, I went on a weekend hunting trip which was all highway driving from 65-70. Got 21.5 MPG from 18 MPG. The next tank was normal driving and my MPG seems to have jumped to 18.5. My overhead is still off, but I do notice better MPG. Also, my power seems to be much tamer.

The TSB is 18-037-04, I got it a week ago and my mileage has increased so far by about 3mpg. I cant say that I can tell that the truck runs better, it seems to but then it always seems to run better after I have just had it washed also!!

It did nothing for my smoke at start up, and very, very little for my in-town mpg, but it did wonders for my hwy mpg which went from around 14.5 to nearly 19. The transmission is smoother, but it is still ruffer than a corn cob, so to speak. I would get it...

Just filled up again. Under my regular commuting and driving, where I consistantly was getting 11.8, I am now up to 12.4 on winter blend. My experience with my PSD was that I always lost at least 1 mpg on winter fuel. I think if we were still on regular fuel, I'd be pushing over 13 easy.
Of course, now my overhead is LESS accurate than before. Transmission shifts MUCH better though.
