Manual tranny fluid amount

I changed out my tranny fluid yesterday. Got home early from working. Anyhow, all went fine except for the amount I could get back in. The capacity I have been told for the NV5600 is 4.75qts. Now I didn't measure the amount that I drained, it went right into the catch bucket, but I could only get 4qts back in before the oil was dribbling out the filler hole. I didn't pull the PTO cover. Is there more oil in there that can be drained out through the bottom PTO bolt hole?? I am assuming that as long as the fluid is up to the filler hole I fine. The front and rear diffs were right on the money as far as the amount of fluid they took. Just need to do the tranfer case and I'll be set for a while. Gotta pick up a larger hex wrench for that. What size is that by chance, anyone know??? Thanks in advance!!! FWIW, I used Amsoil fluids!!

When I did mine, I pulled the PTO cover and there was still a fair volume of oil sitting in the bottom of the case. I'm sure you are fine.

Transfer case plug is 10mm hex if I recall correctly. Took just a bit over 2 quarts.

Dorkweed, Don't mean to hi-jack this thread but I see you have some Husky floor Mats. Where can I find those and Thanks. Terry.

Dorkweed, my tranny took between 4 and 4.5 quarts each time I changed it but there was some variability in the amount I had left over when I was finished. The truck was in the same place each time I changed it out. I stop filling it when it dribble out of the hole.

I used a 3/8" hex to remove the plugs in the transfer case.

Pull the PTO cover on the drivers side. There is a magnet in the bottom of the tranny that can be accessed through the PTO cover. You can remove it, clean then replace it. Reach in and feel around it is about 1" square and about as thick as a nickel.

Just curious here, has anyone removed the top PTO cover bolt and added the other 1/2 quart and round it off to 5 quarts total?
