what is the diff between 03 and 05 auto trannie

Is it better, what does tow haul do? Does it lock out in more gears etc. Thanks for any info. As a whole are the 05 trucks better than the 03. Cause my 03 has failed me too many times to keep it. I hope I'm not making a mistake in buying another dodge. Any ideas and opinins would be great. Thanks

the 05 button doesn't lock out any thing it just changes the shift points. I haven't really seen that many problems with the 05's on here. No where near the 03's so it seems that they are more reliable. If you look at the other manufacturers they are still having problems as well so its 6 of one half dozen of the other, not to mention the financial troubles they are both in wich means quality and service are going to start taking a beating soon. Stick with the brand and maybe even go up to an 06 it seems DC fixed a bunch of the little things.

The "difference" is pretty subjective as it will depend on what problems you are having/had with the 03. Assuming you have the 48RE there are very few hardware. As far as shifting and TQ management goes there are major changes.

The biggest change is the TV pressure is now ECU controlled and you have no choice on how to set shift points. The ECU determines best gear and lockup depending on iputs and thats what you get. Period. You have to modify your driving style a bit as the truck will try to save itself at every opportunity and it will act totally different. The 06's are now approved for exhaust brake and it seems to work pretty well.

What specifically are you looking for in differences and performance?

I was just trying to get some technical ideas about what was changed. I own an 03 so that was the 47re. I just wanted to know how they differed. The 05 catalog does not go into any detail on the changes in the motor or tranny. The prob I had was a bad gearbox and power steering pump. I lost all form of steering while I was under a heavy load. Almost totaled truck and trailer and skidsteer. Narrowly missed oncoming traffic. Fixed but not under warranty. Truck died while plowing, And now I have been without truck for 1.5 weeks. All diagnostic time. Still no ideas on what is broke. The only thing they say it could be is a wiring harness. Still not sure. I like many, need it for work so I traded it in for an 05. That motor kicks *** compared to the 03. Not even close. This 05 breaks loose so easy. I hope I have better luck w/05. End rant. But if you know of changes from 03 to 05 please let me know. Thanks
