I have a SB DD and love it. The chatter seems to have gotten less as it gets more mileage on it.

That's kinda consistent with what the SB tech said. Older cast steel cases were good at absorbing and damping vibration. Aluminum not so much. So more noise and stress from vibration, particularly during lugging. Not that lugging an engine is a good thing, but this is a truck, not a sportscar.

Starting over I'd go with the automatic and get it modded for the heavy towing. But you've convinced me that a conversion is more effort than I want to take on. Someone asked why I chose to go dual disc in the first place. I asked for recommendations from this forum and went with the consensus. Not always a good idea I guess.

I'll consider a single disc replacement but for now just live with it.

People on this or any diesel forum tend to overdo things, every time someone asks about a clutch 6 people will come out with the GO BIG OR GO HOME attitude and recommend a DD and only 1 or 2 will recommend going with a single especially if they tow.

Either way, I always recommend they call Peter at SB and see what he says.
(Myself I would NEVER go to an auto though)
