Making a 48re into a manual shift.
Making a 48re into a manual shift.
Well, as some of you may know, I tried my luck at outfitting a manual transmission for my needs. Although we succeeded in our attempt, it has proven too costly and complex to outfit one as a legal vehicle.
So, here's my question, I have found a good used truck (5.9 with a 48re) but can I modify the auto so that I have complete control over shift points and T.C.lock-up? If so, can I make it so the T.C. can lock up in first gear also? I can only compare this truck's 48re to how my uncle's 2008 6-speed auto behaves. I don't like the "loose" feeling of the 48re, but everything else on the truck is really good.

contact a tranny builder of your choice and ask them about doing a manual valve body. the lock up would be as simple as adding a lock up switch.
An after-market low-stall torque convertor will really improve your relationship with any 47\48xxx series slush-box - the oem hi-stall unit is a real warranty-enhancing dog, feels like your Dodge is in quick-sand - add a TRANSGO shift kit and you'll need one of those mouthpieces boxers use to absorb impact-shock - add a TCC switch, learn when to use it, and yer good to go - works fine, lasts a long time.........
