Louder and slightly different sounding gear-rollover sound after SBCFe Clutch install

Well, I had the SBC Fe clutch put in two days ago......totally woke up the truck.

Its slightly grabby, not bad at all. Truck runs reallllly good now

But today, there is this new noise, sounds just like the gear-rollover noise as before, but now there is more of it, and the pitch of it different. Also, now you can hear in 6th.

Almost like the tranny was low on oil (its not, checked that this afternoon). The flywheel was resurfaced. The old clutch wasn't worn much at all, but had a bunch of heat cracks, and the flywheel they said really needed to be resurfaced. That's all they said about it.

Anyone have a upgraded clutch installed, and have the tranny sound different???

I know what you're saying about waking the truck up. Just put my clutch in last week but when I had it apart I looked at the flywheel it had no wear so I did not resurface it, works just fine no chatter, or other noises. I read a post today about problems with resurfacing you might want to read up.

I saw that post.

But according to SBC, you HAVE to resurface the flywheel, or the warranty is void.

Mine is in and only has 10 miles on it but is is smooth and quite. I will put a couple hundred on this weekend and give you an update Sunday night or Monday.

Did you change the pilot bearing? It didn't get mashed upon installation did it.

I hope not.

I had a shop do the install.

Mine was quiet for 2 days, then it got noisy. Today, it wasn't as noisy.

I think the excess noise is due to the different compounds in the clutch itself. The gear rollover noises would be slightly more suppressed w/ a stock clutch due to the organic type compounds used, basically the stock "soft" clutch will absorb some noise and vibration. The FE will transfer any noises coming through the shaft due to its rigid steel composition. The noises were always there, they are just louder now...

Mine now has 350 miles on it and it is still quite. It has seated and is now much more grabby. But not too bad. It doesn't slip and thats the good part. I suppose WhiteSport could be on to something. Have you changed the tranny fluid lately. Mine used to make a noise similar to yours and I changed the fluid and no more noise.

after I did my clutch, I got a whirring noise in my tranny... especially coasting and in neutral. added another quart of fluid and the noise went away... that was about 30k miles ago.
