Loud injectors on 03..what I tried...
Loud injectors on 03..what I tried...
against my belief of not using diesel additives, I tried some. My truck was quiet when new and has become louder and louder. I tried to find Stanadyne (sp?) locally. No luck. Found Redline additive and used the full bottle to 20 gallons. In one treatment, it has reduced the noise in half...guessing here...no science involved. I am currently sitting on a full tank with a second treatment.
They claim better milage....have not seen any increase yet. No performance gain that I can tell either. They clame better lubrication...how could I tell?. However, it has reduced the injector "rattle" significantly...which is what I wanted. I do not know if this is from cleaner injectors or higher cetane...???
I guess, I am now a convert to additives for diesels only
.
I have 34,153 miles and lovin' the truck.
FWIW - JKE

JKE: I just posted on "Engine Louder" - a few posts up from this one.
I also had the loud injector knocking after 7,000 miles.
After using the additive, Hammerdown #1500, in 60 gallons of fuel, the knocking went completely away. My truck sounds like it did when I first got it. I've read somewhere that Cummins even makes a fuel additive. Not sure. I plan to keep using the additive.

Ron - I overlooked that thread when I posted mine. This should be in with that thread.
I hope the reduction in noise is due to cleaner injectors. Maybe this will help reduce or retard the injector failures
...We can only hope. - JKE

Yes cummins does make a fuel additive. it's called "Premium plus" diesel fuel additive lubricity/cleaner. 8 ounces to 30 gallons of diesel fuel.

When I hit E, I put in almost exactly 30 gals. at fill time! Can't immagine many rigs out there with 30 gal tanks, or am I mistaken?
Cummins has had a fuel additive for a very long time I run some heavy equitment that has there engines and we use there additives they seem to work well Catapillar also has something like it and it will quiten those injecters way down on there engines i think either would be a good thing I use the cat in mine and with 34,000 on it and it sounds like it did when new. just my 02
