Loss of Power, Dodge says nothing wrong.
Loss of Power, Dodge says nothing wrong.
First off, I am not a tech or know very much about motors. My goals are researching here and then taking in the truck with a bit of knowledge so not to be taken.
I have a 04.5 CTD that I have had a EDGE ez on sence 38k miles. I got the truck at 31k. I pulled some trailers before I got the Edge and could really tell a difference, especially on hills.
I am now at 107k and there is a great loss of power when pulling especially on hills. No loss of mileage. I took the truck in to the dealer to have the fuel pressure, injectors and Tranny checked, they said they found nothing. I also do not have codes come up after the key trick. I noticed the power loss after I lost the serp belt due to a bad water pump and tensioner pulley and replaced the Batts at the same time.
When driving on flat there is more movement required on the accelerator. What in the past may have required 1/4 throttle, now requires 1/2 or more. It is like the truck would rather lug than down shift. Responce also is sluggish. Yesterday I was driving to my inlaws, I take this trip 6+ times a year and have the past 4 years in this truck (empty with Edge, on secondary roads) in MO. A couple times I had to put the pedal to the floor to not loose speed and then was very reluctant to downshift. Same road 3 months ago did not require near as much pedal movement and downshifting was quicker. I know this does not help much, but I know there is a problem, but don't know where.
When pulling a trailer it is worse. At this point I have yet to drive the same roads w/out the Edge so I do not have a comparision. I took the trip with the Edge because I did not want to loose the MPG but the loss of power is a problem.
My question is this, Is it my Edge? I had it removed when I took it to the shop to have everything tested ( my butt gauge does not remember pre edge power to compare to? Does it sound like a tranny thing? (I had the bands adjusted and Governor Silonids replaced 10 months ago @ 90k, not starting out in 1st). Or is it a fueling issue, like an injector going bad or my fuel pump getting weak (had the fuel pump replaced and moved to tank in 2007 @ 75k under warrenty).
Any suggestions welcome.

I plan to go home without the Edge. Is there a way to check out the Edge? Guess I could send it in, but like most things bet it would cost more for repair than to replace. If I replace I want to go to something like the Additude with gauges built in.
Where or how do I check out the APPS?
What stinks is I just paid the truck off. Camping season is comming up and I know if the truck stays the same, pulling the camper will be real difficult.

Pull the Edge first and then check you response.
When did you last time you checked the trans? Any chance it is low on fluid? The old stand by about checking the fuel filter is always a good one when you lose power.
Also as mentioned the throttle position may be messed up but Dodge should have found that.

I have found a huge difference in power lately in my 4.5 in were I get my fuel . I usually get my fuel from only one suppler and recently went to a Marathon and seen a significant increase in power . I could have been getting winter fuel yet from my old station and found someone who already switched , I do not know .

My 06' did the same thing right before the turbo went out and blew the motor up. Took it to dodge right before all this happenend and dodge told me the exact same thing, nothing's wrong with it and the tech said it drove great. If I were you I would get the turbo checked out.
I changed the fuel filter @ 100k and then I changed it again about 400miles ago. The Filter was still light in color. Most of the time when I change it, it is Black and fluffy.
The dealer said to try and get a better focus on what is going on and they will work me in. They also said they will road test it under a load when I bring it back in. I had to leave for the weekend so the dealer did not have a chance to test under load. They have been great in the past, taking care of me. I have had all my work done there (A dealer I feel I can trust, not many around). I specifically had them check the fuel pressure and injectors as well as the tranny, all without the Edge. I will call and ask about the turbo and the APPS if they were checked.
The truck is not throwing codes so there is no data to support my Butt gauge. When my tranny was fixed, they said it was in the very beginning of breaking down. The dealer trusts me when I think something is wrong now, at least that is what the servis tech says.
The fuel is a mix of multiple stations and I have gone through a few tanks with this problem. I have used Diesel Pro after starting to have this issue, thinking it may be something clogged, but I don't think that would be an issue.
I hope it is not the Turbo, I hope it all worked out for you Cody459, but that will be somethig to take a long hard look at.
Thanks for the posts. I have had more stuff taken care and fixed because of this site that I could have imagined. Much better experience sampling here than at the parts store for sure.

Don't have a gage. Is that hard to check? Is that something that could be checked at like Autozone or something?
I did take off the Edge for the trip home, 230 miles. I know the overhead is incorrect, but the difference is relative. With Edge I was getting 20.5 mpg and on the way home I got 12.5 mpg. I was bucking a 25-30 mph wind on the way home, but I had a stiff wind on the way up as well. Before getting the Edge, I was getting 15 mpg on the overhead empty.
I was pulling a 16' utility trailer with 2 honda quads. I think it may be the Edge, but not for sure. Is there a way to get them checked out without having to send them in? If it is bad, any suggestions on a replacement. I would like gauges in the system. I don't need ungodly power, just the boost for towing and the added fuel mileage. That is why I went with the Edge EZ in the beginning. What does a Smarty run?
As a side note, not sure if this is something to look into, but I had to add over a gallon of coolant before I left for the trip to bring it op to just over the ADD line. It was topped off at the last oil change. I have yet to check the level to see if it is dropping ( may be just a leak i the system). As of yet, I don't see my oil lever going up either.

It is very difficult to diagnose whats wrong with your truck, without gauges.
I have a pyro, boost, and fuel pressure gauge on my a-pillar. I also have the Edge Juice/W Attitude that also displays all those readings and then some, not to mention being able to select different power levels with the touch of a button on the fly.
If you liked your Edge EZ, and don't want to install dedicated gauges, you might want to consider getting the Edge Juice W/ Attitude, or another brand that has the display feature.
