I just had mine at the dealer to fix a leak on the passenger side of the block. Between the turbo and oil filter area. They said they fixed it by tightening the block heater bolts. I'll have to wait and see. You might check that area for coolant.

....the saga continues

Today I took my truck to the diesel shop that has done all my work in the past. We could find absolutly nothing that even resembled a leak.

They have ordered a dye for the coolant and we will install it next week. Then we will see. The drying water on the manifold I mentioned earlier appears to be from when I washed last time.

I will keep everyone updated......

the saga coninues....

As I mentioned earlier, my diesel shop ordered a dye for the radiator (from NAPA) and I put it in earlier this week. This morning I took it back to them and they ran a black light over the motor. It appears that the leak is coming from oil cooler area. It looks like a royal pain in the xxx to repair. Drain the oil, coolant, take off the alternator, etc just to replace a gasket.

I am not a happy camper to say the least! I have visions of the dealership really screwing this up.

Has anyone else had this problem?? Is there a TSB for it?? ANY help/ advise would be appreciated! Would putting a "stop leak additive" in be smart?? Or just tightening the bolts be smart?

I for sure would try tightening the bolts. I have checked with Cummins and they seem to think that Bars Leaks Pellets should be ok in the engine. Many vehicles come from the factory with it in including most motorcycles. Just don't use any of the almumimum based sealers which Bars Leaks also makes. I can tell you the first place that the Cummins will get into trouble with sealant. The raditor cap feeding the overflow will try to plug. The correct amount will not do this. I ran heavy amounts in the engine of all kinds to keep water in the cracked block. I ran this stuff for 10,000 miles till the crack just got too big. At first the normal amount of Bars Leaks Pellets would take care of it really well and not cause any problems.

Could this new type of antifreeze "break down" more rapidly than the old stuff?
it would probably be more organic than the old stuff.

...the saga comes to and end!

Today I took my baby to Desert Dodge ( a 5 Star dealership) on Sahara in Las Vegas. Based on my Chevy (don't ask!) days, I fully expected for them to make more problems than they fixed. I had an appointment and (lo and behold) the service writer just happened to have just bought a CTD ...things were looking up!

We immediately chatted about how awesome our trucks were as I explained about the dye we had put in to find the leak. He was asking where to get a chip, exhaust, etc....loved my AFE and exhaust! Just in general BSing about how lucky we are to such bitchin truck!

Long story short....4 hour later they called me to say that I had loose clamp at the oil cooler area...replaced it and I am good to go! They even fixed the underhood light ....life is good!

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!
