long cool down time. what to do?
My truck takes forever to cool down even when driving easy. Do I need to change the muffler or am I barking up the wrong tree?
If it is the muffler that needs to be changed I want one that sounds close to stock; I have been reading about donaldsons, is this the only way to go. I would prefer a direct bolt on w/hangers (am I asking too much?).
If its not the muffler than what else to do? I alsohave punched a 4" hole in the airbox if that helps any.

Where is your pyro probe installed?
And what temps are you seeing when you say it stays hot/warm while cooling down?
Also, free flowing exhaust will help out some, but depending on where your checking the temperature, it may always read hotter than others are seeing...
Heres where mine are, the one on top measuring 1-3 is for the edge/attitude, and the one in the "collector" portion is measuring 4-6 on the pillar. 4-6 runs hotter than 1-3, and laying into it some ill see a 50*-100* difference between the two...

I have a MBRP muffler replacement kit on my truck. It was inexpensive ($170) and it bolts up and uses the factory hangers. The sound under normal driving is reasonable and under heavy load is a little more agressive. I got mine from Ken's Performance. Tell him Nick sent you. (No I don't work for him or get anything out of this).
The first thing I did when I got my truck was install gauges. Then I got real familiar with the overall operating temp before making any mods. I was running the stock air box with an Amsoil drop in filter and the Cool Power mod-4" hose off the bottom of the air box to bring in more air, plus the Cool Hose to add a little insulation to the intake pipe. That DID change my EGT's some, overall around 100*'s but in my book not enough so I now have the Ice Box Intake with a more or less open air Amsoil BHAF type filter. I also got rid of the muffler and installed a ME pipe, that made another difference in EGT's by a good 100*'s and now my cool down is pretty fast. I also added the GDP Intake Horn recently, it dropped my ECT's more, and my cooldown is a little quicker. I wasn't looking for pretty and fancy stuff under the hood, only functional, although all this stuff looks good under there. Total amount of EGT changes is right at 250* with all this stuff and my cooldown time is about 1 minute now. By the way, my EGT probe is reading the 4-6 cylinders pre-turbo.

stacked, my probe is a little above yours in the collector, from the time I park the truck temp in the 550 range it takes a good 3-4 min to get to 400
Nick, is the drone w/that muffler?
Cd, will look into the intake options

Also, make sure you're in park or neutral, and turn the AC off. Also, if you rev the engine to 1500 rpm or so for about 10 seconds then let off, the EGTs come down faster. Sometimes I have to do that a couple of times before shutdown.

Just to tell you what im seeing, when I pull in, I see 400-420ish on my Attitude(upper probe), and 450-500 on the guage, after about 30 seconds it drops to 340-350/ 380-400, respectively...
For cooling down I have a howards timer, and 2 minutes has always cooled it down plenty(300-320* summer, 280-300*, or lower, winter)
Id start, like others said, with a better flowing muffler, and maybe build yourself a cold air intake and go from there...

I just got back from a trip towing my trailer.
I pulled into a rest stop and just let it idle, it was down to about 350º in less than a minute, that was loaded, towing the trailer, BDTD set to 'performance'.
Didn't take long at all...
