04 with second intank fuel pump failing. Need to know if I can install a pump from Geno's and not mess with the in tank even if it is bad? Will it still pull fuel?

 

get an air dog, fass, fuelboss or something equivalent stock pumps are junk

 

How do you know it's failing? What are the symptoms?

 

I have noticed a sluggish sputtering at the top end of each gear like a clogged fuel filter. Kinda doggish. I have also noticed more sluggish start ups and longer cranking as time goes on. Also noticed a rougher idle now and then.

Changed the fuel filter and no change. Added some fuel additive (Power Services) and that did not help. Feels fine when Im on the go pedal. Thought it might be an injector but no smoke or other issues and others pointed me to the fuel pump in another post. It has been replaced once 2 yrs ago and that seems to be the most common issue and right on time. I guess I am not 100% sure but can barely afford the pump and time to change it let along a couple hundred for a guage to see that it is in fact going bad.

Any thoughts on a cheaper guage set up that I can roll to the new set up? I thought there might be a air check valve on the fuel line somewher to check the pressure that way but have not climbed under yet to see.

do it ONCE and do it RIGHT. You have already thrown money at your problem and are back where you started (are you a government employee? J/K

I had a Fuel Boss on my 2000 and have one waiting for the time to go on the 06... NEVER will deal with a lift pump issue or lack of fuel. I like the Fuel Boss because it runs in PARALLEL and keeps the stock POS as a back up. You could ignore replacing the crappy one you have or do it later when the money tree gets its leaves back.

sorrry to say this but if had run a fuel pressure gauge you would have saved some money. injectors can be bad and not smoke or dump fuel in the oil, one of the main signs is the hard to start or longer crank. test the injectors several methods are on here

 

Yeah i hear ya on the saving money but wanted to upgrade the pump anyway so in the end still saving money IMO. Will look into the injectors next probably.
