Lift Pump/Gauge Q

So I'm finally going to get around to gauges...As in my sig, I was thinking of doing the FP/SRT pillar....But, the '06 has the in-tank LP....

Are the in-tank pumps less susceptible to failure than the LP's on the firewall?? Or could I still expect LP problems?

(wondering if it's necessary to have a gauge)

The in-tank lift pumps have only been out for a year and half (1 1/2 years) and I have only heard of one failure, which was more of a mount issue than the pump going bad, so no I have not heard of one in-tank lift pump going bad. When earlier trucks come in for warranty work on the lift pump they are fitted with an in-tank lift pump. DC no longer sells the engine or fuel filter lift pumps.
