Less Smoke

I just traded in my 07.5 on an 03 and now I'm on my 3rd dodge cummins. This thing smokes like a coal train, after two weaks of owning it my tailgate is black. The dealer I bought it from had aftermarket injetors installed. I don't know what size, I'm trying to get that info. I have learned from searchs that I need a bigger turbo, possibly an HE351 but nop time or $$$ for that right now. Is there anyother way to smoke less and could all the smoke cause any problems?

2003, QCLB, 2500, 5.9, 5sp, 4x4, straight pipe, Injectors? no other mods, 175000miles.

If bigger sticks were installed and the factory turbo left in place......yes, it's gonna smoke. You need more airflow to clean it up. Make sure all of your intercooler hoses are in good shape and not leaking too.....you're gonna need all the air you can get.

Finding out what the new injectors are would be a big help. Also ask WHY they put new injectors in.

I agree that you need more air. This may sound stupid but make sure the air filter is new.

You should install a boost gauge and pyro.

A boost gauge will tell you what your boost is which will tell you how your turbo is performing, if you have a dirty air filter or if you have a boost leak.
Low boost could account for all the smoke.

The truck could still have a programmer installed. If you can find someone local with a Smarty, then can flash your truck to stock or the dealer can flash it to stock.
This will get rid of the possibility that the truck has a programmer installed.

The truck could have larger injectors installed which will cause smoke.
Stock 2003-04 nozzles are commonly available on the used market and not hard to swap out.

thank for the replies. I am waiting on the dealer to find out what size were put in. I did have the truck checked out by Abilene Diesel Performance here in Abilene Tx. the mechanic plugged in his laptop we to took the truck for a drive. He said boost was at 28 and everthing else checked out, the smoke is nothing to worry about probably just bigger injectors.

I am planning on some guages as soon as i get the $$. I will be towing my 5th wheel this fall, I think I should have atleast the Pyro before I tow.

Air and fuel filter were changed the day I took it home, they were both black

blue chip is decent i have my motor totally rebuilt all performance and i use a custom programmer but running closer on to stock i would probably say for just the little bit extra go with a smarty jr.,its definetly the best bang for your buck, after that i would go towards a power edge for a signifigant power jump. After that you would want to start changeing injectors, turbo, etc.
