2006 Mega DRW,4WD, knocks when I turn left, like into my driveway. Coming from the passenger side front. Only have 7000 miles on truck, any thoughts.
Sounds like coil spring is out of pocket and goes back in?

If it was a second gen I would say track bar connection at the axle, might be worth checking on a 3rd gen. Have someone saw the steering wheel back and forth while you look at all the joints in the steering rack to see what has excessive play.
Then lets us know what you find.

Bounty Hunter,
I get a knock or a popping noise from the front passenger side every time I make a left turn out of my driveway. The steering wheel is all the way to the left(very tight turn) when it makes the noise, but that is the only time it does it...let us know what you find.

Everything is still stock on the drivetrain, stock tires also. Seems to do it more when I turn in fast. Don't think I have the steering locked left when turning in but will check. Haven't changed differential fluid, only 7,000 miles. Will check a few things and get back.

If you are at full or close to full lock and there is a small bit of curb into your driveway (suspension movement) then it is just your steering stops on the knuckles contacting and grinding with the suspension movement. You should be able to see where the stops are and put some multipurpose wheel bearing grease on them to quiet them up. It is normal for steering stops to make some noise when in contact and with suspension movement which is exactly what you have described. I put grease on mine verytime I change the oil or am under the truck for any reason.

You are saying that on a solid front axle, if you are at or close to full lock and you hit a bump you will get a scraping sound. I have messed with many a solid axles of all types in my rock-crawling adventures and have yet to here one make a scraping sound. When my rig was still IFS it made it all the time, but not a solid axle. I do not see how that is possible!

maybe he has a bad steering column???I have heard of a few guys having to get them replaced??
just throwing some ideas out there
Wasn't there a bulletin pertaining to steering column bearings being bad?
Steering column bearing bulletin
Doesn't sound like a noise issue but rather a play issue...and it was for 03-05's...never know, it could make noise though.
And yes I do remember seeing the steering stops and now it makes sense that they are a stop but there is no suspension movement in this area like Toyota's and Nissan's. Dumb me just wasn't thinking along the lines of solid axle.
Maybe also check and see if there are any rocks or pebbles stuck in the spring seat or in between coils of the springs? That can make a pretty decent boinging sound under the right conditions?

I could have sworn I seen steering stops on the front knuckle however...I'll have to retract that one and rethink.
