a "knock" @ 15-25mph

I noticed lately I can hear something towards the front end between these speeds. I believe it has something to do with front tires, brakes, or axle. I can only hear the sound when the window is up and it changes frequency as I slow down everytime. It's definately tied to the speed of the truck, not the engine or random bumps in the road. I have 71K on the truck and changed the oil in the front diff about 15K ago. I can't hear it when the window is down, when accelerating or the stereo on due to noise, of course. The noise happens about once every full revolution of the tire. I checked the lug nuts, they are tight. I haven't had a brake job done yet (pads looked really good about 15K ago), but it's not the shake you get from warped rotors as you're slowing down. any ideas?

that is pretty much the same speed range in which my failed front axle u-joint started knocking.

2nd that motion on axle u-joint, if it grenades before you fix it, you can expect big $$ to get it all fixed. Usually takes out the axle ends to where the joint mounts into, and unit bearing will suffer also.. Cost me $1200 when mine went.

yep, the drivers side ujoint has play in it as well as the bearing in the axle housing. I was a bit shocked at the way the ujoint was loose though, it wasn't in the rotational direction...the inner ujoint clevis (inner axle shaft) moves up and down about an 1/8". I'm surprised oil from the diff isn't leaking out through the slop in the bearing & seal in the axle housing...

If the steer yoke just isn't aligned correctly to the axle housing, I hope they can diagnose a realignment...
