Injector questions

I have an early 04. I brought the truck in to the dealer to see about changing out injectors they told me it wouldn't accomplich anything do to the intake wouldn't allow for the bigger injectors. If i had a later 04 it would of worked.

So now i am thinking about trading her in for 6 speed auto. unless i rebuild tranny and chip it. Not sure what to do just wnodering about what the dealer said was true?

Your first mistake was taking it to the dealer. MOST dealers and their mechanics don't have a clue about diesel performance. While it is true that adding bigger injectors won't necessarially gain you any performance it's not due to the intake. Bigger injectors come into play with bigger more efficient turbos and fueling boxes/downloaders, high flow filters and high flow exhaust. You have to get more air into an engine if you are going to put more fuel into it. At the same time you have to be able to clear out the combusted gases quicker to allow more clean air/fuel to enter the chamber. Combustion needs air and fuel at a precise ratio. If you want more horsepower, you have to have more of both. If you do get more fuel without more air, you'll have worse gas mileage, higher EGT's and an all around less efficient engine.

NOS is a good example. All NOS does is increase the amount of oxygen in the mixture. If you want more horsepower, you then have to give the mixture more fuel when the NOS is injected. If you don't, you'll lean out the mixture very quickly and cause some pretty serious damage in a real hurry.

Wow your diesel tech at that dealer sounds like the one at the shop down the road from us lol. What are you trying to do better mileage, towing capability, drag racing, etc?

I am trying to have her pull better without voiding the warranty.

That will void the warranty if they pull the injectors or if you tell them that is the only way to trace that. Go with some 50hp Dynomite Diesel injectors great for towing and fuel economy and not traceable by star scan drb.

Will those injectors do the trick even though I have an early 2004? What about the dealers response? I would hate to spend the $ and not get what i am exspecting. How much are those istalled $1000-$1500?

Is there something wrong with your injector(s)? Is that why you are focusing on them?

I'd look into a quad xtz box if I were you and see what you thinik. You'd save a bunch of money and I think you'd see better results than with just sticks. JMHO

The XZT is a small HP gain box. About 65 HP and 150 Torque additional, mostly low and middle power range. Built for towing and does help a little with fuel millage. As long as you aren't hammering constantly stock tranny will hold up well. If stock and hammering it constantly you will break something just as easially as with mods. Like above, try a small towing type of box and it will surprise you I'm sure.

Edited due to wrong torque statement, not 1560 but 150-160 range increase.
