Injector problems
Injector problems
So im pretty sure a couple if not all my injectors are bad. I have 12 monthes left of cummins warranty and my truck is at the dealer right now and they wont do any work on it because they said they cant prove my injectors are bad. I brought my truck in and told them i have fuel in my oil, hard start issues, white smoke at start-up, a miss at idle, and a strong fuel smell. All they did is check it for trouble codes and said there was none so they cant do anything until they cant get it to start. (Its a little warmer here now then a couple of weeks ago when I was having the issues in colder (15 degrees and lower) weather). Any ideas on how i can convince them? I want to get this problem fixed before spring comes and i forget about it. And if i have an injector sticking i dont think it would set of a code would it? Any advice would be very helpful. They also told me that my glow plugs were good and my injection pump was fine.
Is it just me or is it really sad that most of us know more about these trucks than any dealer in the country? Thanks, Jake

nope wou;ldnt set a code. youll just get one stuck open one day while you are passing someone and that cylinder will reach 1400 F or higher and boom dropped valve, seat or melted piston

First of all if the dealership told you your glowplugs were good...RUN, RUN FAST. Get away from that dealership
. Our trucks have a grid heater in the intake manifold. Yes they can tell you if your injectors are failing. The easiest test for me was to get my trusty ohm meter and check them by looking at the resistance across the two studs on the top of the injector itself. I forget the numbers but someone in here knows what they are. That would be the easiest place to start.

if you have diesel in the oil it should warrant a check in th efuel system wether its setting codes or not. if they still say no have it documentede and signed that they detected diesel in the oil and didnt try to check it out. will help when motor craters and you want to sue them. Then go find a dealer that actually knows something
Yep, NO glow plugs, you have a grid heater.
Truck won't start? Is it getting fuel?? Check the fuel pump output??
Fuel in oil?? Have you an oil sample to prove that?? If not, you can draw oil via the dipstick tube, get a sample and get it sent in . . fuel in oil IS a sign of an injector problem.
I would call Chrysler, tell them ALL your problems, have them suggest to the dealer what to do OR suggest some things to you - they warranty your truck, the dealer just facilitates the repairs. Is the dealerships mechanic a certified mechanic or just a guy with a couple weeks diesel training??
Consider taking the truck elsewhere - is another dealer is available to you??
And I would certainly get an oil sample, like yesterday, before they take anything apart or do anything. AMUNITION is truly important, a certified lab test saying that there is fuel in the oil and HOW MUCH of a percentage will go a long way to getting things fixed.
And, I am assuming that you removed the EDGE ??? People have had problems similar to yours and found out that their programmer/power box was actually causing their problems.
CD

Thanks for all the answers I will send in a oil sample and go from there. I also brought it to one other dealer a week ago and they basically told me the same thing. The only warranty left on the truck is the 7yr. 100,000 cummins warranty, can a cummins diesel shop provide warranty work?

As far as I know a Cummins shop cannot work on the truck under warranty. It has to be the dealer. If the computer senses a miss, that will show up as a code. Mine stuck and I checked it with the smarty first..Fuel in the oil is a sure sign of an injector issue.
