The idiot and the Transfer case!
Some ways to get hold of it come to mind. I have a tool that has 4 small fingers on the end of a flexable wire wound tube. It has a plunger that expands the fingers and when released it could grab the tube and pull it out.
A pair of long needle nose pliers or a surgical forceps might get a hold of it. If it is to the side of the hole maybe a needle nose with a 90* bend in the nose will work.
You might bend a wire into a long U, get it to slip over the tube and work the shorter end back into the drain hole. You would then have both ends of the wire to pull on which would allow a lot of pull pressure to get it out.

Did my tranny and tcase yesterday. I giggled a little bit when I went to refill the diff, "Do not use a tube"
R13, how'd you manage to get the tube out? I saw what you were talking about there at the drain hole/pick up tube. It wasn't a clear shot out of there.

Take a piece of hardened inner cable from a heater/vent control or lawn mower throttle cable then bend a small 90 deg on the end. It must be small enough to fit inside the tube you used. Fish the cable all the way through the tube and the 90deg will catch the end and you should be able to wiggle it out by pulling gently and guiding the front end of the tube with a small screwdriver. I keep a selection of old vent cables with the original Tee handle and cable cut to various lenghts for these kind of things.
Yes...say no to tubes

After getting it to the bottom I used a piece of wire hanger to get it right against the pickup, then using a hook style pick I stabbed it and just fandangled it out the lil gap over the pickup tube.

You know what comes to mind for this? Old clutch and throttle cables from a motorcycle. I have a few of those stashed in my parts box on the shelf. Great to know

And I think we should start a "maintenance gone wrong" group
I'm pretty sure that would be a large group...
Thanks...It was a huge relief.
