I dont want the vavle seat drop to happen where to get a head from?

Ok guys i just bought my truck and i do not want the valve seat drop to happen to me. it is an 03 with 60,000 miles on it. I do not want this to happen so where would be the best place to get a head from? or can i just have new seats driven in? What if i buy an o ringed head will the issue be taken care of or not? thanks guys.

oringing the head has nothing to do with the seats. oringing is just to seal in higher cylinder pressure due to lots of boost. I believe you can just peen the seats by taking a center punch and making a circle of punch marks around and very close to each valve seat which will increase the heads holding pressure on the seats. not all heads drop seats though. unless you have severely overheated your motor I wouldn't sweat it .

Super is right. Overheating is the primary cause of seat failure. (I said primary so put down the torches) The seats are pressed in and when the head gets so hot it expands and the pressed fit of the seats is lessened. Engineers have attempted to match the expansion rate of the seat metal and head, and for the most part it works pretty well.

lol watch it u guys. when i was stock before the edge i could see 1600 egt easily. i tried 3 different gauges and 4 different pyros. i put it in manifold between 3 and 4 cylinder. if i mashed pedal empty on highway to pass someone i could see 1500 egt EASILY

no. fire ringing is something totally different. thats if you want twin turbos or want to build more than 45 psi on a daily basis. you dont need to worry.. as long as you keep ur egts in check youll be fine.i passed someone and i hit 120 km/hour and my egts went to 1450 and i dropped a valve, melted a piston, and put a hole through the valve.

put a serious load on it to see the real high exhaust temps. try wide open throttle up a steep grade pulling a heavy trailer and just watch how high she goes!
