down grades

I pull and descend steep grades often and my 06 does a great job. I still plan to add an ebrake.

I bet they would sing a different tune if they ever came west & come off a grade with a heavy load with brake fade.

Bought my brake yesterday at the dealer for $1250.00 + tax, installed it today, only took about 5 hours and that was using all hand tools in the driveway. Coming down 10% grade about 3/8 mile long, it held 51 MPH empty, and since the muffler fell off Friday morning, it does have a very slight bark. Nieghbor was in his yard when I came down the little hill in front of our house, popped the brake and he heard it. The last rear brake job on my 92 DC cost me over $600.00, so it won't take long to pay for itself. If anything, it's just the giggle factor coming down that big grade and popping the brake, making those idiots behind me cuss, the speed limit is only 45mph, but they run 70-80 up and down it, coal trucks too.
But figuring out that #42 and 39 pin on the ECM was a booger, I didn't trust the picture, so I sat and counted and marked, and did it again, a paperclip works great for getting the plugs out. Gonna seal them with silicone in the morning. Fired that puppy up in the driveway, clicked the button, and SHAZAM, it was working with a cold engine. I just wished it barked more.

Sweet picture! Almost makes me want a mobile camping unit. PS Sweet bumpter sticker in your photo gallery too.

I love firing up the Jake Brake when the motor is cold. People give me the weirdest looks, including my wife. She thought I had some type of a major leak. hehe

I concur, very nice picture, I cannot wait to get an RV or toyhauler to put behind the new MegaCab. That is a very nice looking set up. Scotty

eBrake and downshifting

I don't have eBrake yet, but my tranny does downshift on descent if I have it in tow/haul and have cruise set.

Helps the engine to warm up quicker (along with the idle enable), and it sounds like your muffler is plugged up when it's running.

Pulling the button on the Jake Brake when it's cold helps the motor warm up faster. At the tail pipe you'll hear a SWOOSHING noise, or as a friend said "man this ain't right". But in the cab, you'll hear a little bark. I have my truck with a straight pipe, and if I pull the button in the morning, it actually quitens down the truck. Paperwork says it will stay on until water temp is 170-175*, if you leave it. Just to see, I have pulled it, about 2 miles from home at a red light, and it kicks in, until warm. But the BEST laugh is to pull it beside some one and let them hear the swoosh out of the pipe, if I had a camera, I'd be rich from all the stupid dumb looks I get, but pulled it today beside a coal truck coming to red light, he laughed his *** off and then pulled his . I want to know how to make it bark. This is like being a pit bull in a yard with poodles and they discover that you are nuetered.

Just out of curiosity, is there a price difference between adding an exhaust brake to a stick or auto? I know the 48RE couldn't come with one until recently, so am I correct in thinking the install is easier for a stick?
