Question I am confused

Last week on vacation running around St Augustine Florida my truck was getting (overhead) 18.3 in town. I pulled the trailer back home and filled up, now I am getting around 13.2 up today from the 11.9 that it has been showing all week. What gives ?Same basic speed and traffic flow. You guys are talking about a TBS for Reflashing, is this somthing that could be needed on a 2003??? Most of the ones I see having this done are 2004.5s. Before the vacation trip the truck was getting 12.9 around town.
Any assistance would be great. Thanks

The reflash is not for you, it is for the 600 guys like myself. Dont know what to tell you other than there had to have been some variance in driving pattern to reflect that big of a difference....

Did you reset your average on your overhead comp......I would imagine that pulling a trailer would drastically reduce your average depending on your speed, weight, ect....reset it and see what it reads...

Yap! reset it after pulling the TT home. While pulling went from the 18 down to 11.8 in 49 miles. So after dropping the TT reset it. As of this moring it is now upto 14.0 . Any other ideas?? I do only have 18,000 on it.

Your post is a little confusing. Are you wondering why it was up to 18 while on vacation or are you wondering why it's up a little now, after your vacation?
I'd say something was screwing with the overhead while you were down there and I have no idea what it could be. As far as the mileage being up a little now from before vacation I would attribute it to breaking the truck in. I remember when my truck turned 12,000 miles that my mileage went up about 1.5 mpg. I just filled up one day and the mileage was higher than before and it stayed that way. Your mileage still sounds a little low for a truck with 3:73s or are you a little "Heavy Footed"?

Dodgezilla,

The real question is why is it down now, after my vacation and the 18 MPG then. (I liked that). No difference in driving technique and not heavy-footed, but I am off the line faster than the other vehicles and was while on vacation.

If I read correctly your mileage was 12.9 mpg before vacation, went up to 18 during vacation, and is now back down to 13.2 mpg after vacation which is a little higher than before.
Your before and after mileages are pretty close and the vacation mileage is way out of whack! I'd say see if the overhead gets crazy again and then take it to the dealer. If not then I guess some gremlins got into the computer and decided to mess with you..

Just a thought...that stray 18 kinda sounds metric when compared to your other "normal" readings. 18.3l/100Km = 12.8Mpg approx.

Maybe your onto something SteveZ!
JAXFL1, maybe you hit the "US/Metric" button on the overhead on accident..
