How many miles on a Catalytic Converter

For those of you that still have one, how many miles should you get before problems arise or you should replace? I have 125k now. Not having any problems I was just wondering?

After rebuilding my motor at 115k I went ahead and pulled the converter off just make sure it was still alright and to pull parts of my turbo out of it, other than the turbo part It was still ok, went ahead and had cleaned and reinstalled for about a $100.

I haven't heard of too many stopping up. They just quit working. After removing mine my EGTs went down and my turbo seemed to spool quicker off idle.

how do you remove it? Can it be removed and routed out and reinstalled as suggested above? How is this done? Thanks

I removed mine without any damage but you will need a torch and some help. The factory pulls the clamps down enough to put a good crimp on. If you were planning on reinstalling it I would just sawzall the pipes and band clamp a piece of pipe in its place.

When they removed mine the muffler shop cut it at the edge of the pipe and the converter, cleaned the pipe edges, then used some kinda of device to clean out the inner parts of the converter. After cleaning stuck it back up in place welded and it was done, took about an hour.

98K miles on mine and it's not been a problem yet.

If you decide to remove it, I would suggest you take it out intact. Those things are expensive and should you have to put it back, you won't want to buy one. Also if you are dead set on gutting it, then save the internals as there is precious metal in there and you could get a little cash for the stuff.

Gutted sounds the same to me. Even with my MBRP my truck sounds stock, I don't get these diesels , but put a turbo muffler on a gas truck, and you have the baddest truck in town.
