How many change their own oil?
I don't think anyone should change their own oil
for a number of very very good reasons ... AND I think it should be changed every time you buy fuel... Or sooner...
But I have a quick lube business so I am a little biased....

thats funny right there I dont care who ya are
A lot of people say stuff like at least I know it's done right and there is truth to this. If you take it to a dealership you will probly be safe but if you take it to a lube shop, dont think I have to name names here many have probly seen the reports on the news shows, often times the work is only actually done about 50 % of the time

you'll consider doing your own.
Dealer Tech put oil in one of our company cars before lunch time and came back from lunch and filled it again! didn't take long till the car was smoking so bad it looked like it was on fire.
Another time all four wheels were not torqued after a rotation. it was a good thing the driver pulled over just before the wheels fell off. All four rims and all the studs/nuts had to be replaced.
This was two different dealers, I'm sure there are some good dealers but these two make me feel good about doing my own work when ever possible.

I usually do mine, except for yesterday. I did a survey for our local Dodge dealership and they gave me a certificate good for a free oil change. The dealership wasn't too pleased when they asked for the money and I gave them a piece of paper. I usually use a 5 gallon plastic bucket to drain into. I purchased one of the 3 prong oil filter wrenches and the only other thing I need is a 3/8" 6 inch extension and a 3/8" drive ratchet. I also use old bread bags to drop the oil filter into to eliminate the mess. Works like a charm!!!!
I use to frown a lot when the coupon was handed to me afterwards also.It changes how the paperwork is done and all has to be backed out and done again.Had signs that said please hand over coupons at time of writeup was the reason. Not that a coupon was being used.Has to do with billing and coding parts and labor.Cashiers get real irritable after about 6 or so of those being handed to her/him in a few hours.
Filter changing tip: I took a utility knife and sliced some of the inner fender well skirt to access the filter ftom the passengers side fender well. By the way DO NOT forget to grease all the front end and u joint ( if the can be)! I do mine every 4000 miles and also do my fuel fiter too! Good luck!
