Well they have two open bays right at the front of the service garage for oil/lub only. I stand and watch when they are doing mine, so I know it is done and that they do it right. There are service departments that can do things right. The low price is just to keep the oil/lube bays busy and obviously a chance to sell you other maintenance or service work while your there. I take advantage of the low price and convience for the oil changes. Before my FASS I did ask what a fuel filter change would cost while I was having the oil changed. $109 including tax was the price, needless to say I did my own fuel filter changes then and now.

Back home in CO the dealer charged me $79 for the oil change and $100 for a fuel filter change. Boy, never again. It takes longer to the fuel filter out of the packaging and the tool out than to actually change the **** thing. I go to Cummins or Fleetguard (not the dealer) for both filters, walmart for Rotella 15w-40 and only spend under $40 bucks! Friends don't let friends go to the dealer for a Fuel filter change.

Holy crap, it's just oil!! I smear it all over myself....

The maintenance manual I downloaded from Dodge today specifically states to add 1 quart to the filter before putting it back on. I only have 150 miles on the new truck so far, but unless they are dirt cheap at the dealership I'll handle that end of it myself. Rotella is $2.21 a quart at Costco when you buy the big box,I think it was 6 one gallon containers-boxes were buried last night.

You mean I could be paying someone else to do this icky job? I thought we all change our own oil. I had no idea.

Actually, I enjoy changing my oil. I always have from the time I was able to drive, and now this Cummins thing really makes me enjoy it even more. Yes, In some kind of silly way.....it's rather therapeutic, don't ya think? I love this Fumoto valve too - makes things a little easier.

I do mine with Delo 400/ Fleetguard Stratapore every 7500mi.
The 4-2-1- kit from Geno's is great
I always pre-fill the oil filter (I seriously doubt the dealer does it)
If you wait five minutes after you drain the oil then remove the oil filter it will be almost spill free. Slip a ziploc baggie up on the filter be for you remove it and the baggie will catch the spills.
I replaced the short hose on the fuel filter drain with a longer hose that spills right into my 15 qt. Blitz drain pan.
Doing my own oil changes gives me the chance to look things over under the truck anyway.

On past vehicles I've always done my own oil changes as I didn't trust the "lube jockeys" to work on them. Can anyone tell me if doing your own changes can "void" an extended warranty? Is documentation via receipts enough to prove proper maintenance. Sorry if this question is considered a thread hijack.

Well it's Friday and for a change I have the weekend off!
I change the oil myself, usually $45.00 gets me the oil and filter. The used oil gets "used" again, fuel the heater at the garage, bar oil for the chain saw...there's other uses but it's the satisfaction of getting dirty and knowing it's done correctly!

Have done my pwn oil changes and as much of the maintenance as I can on everything we've owned for 30 years, why stop now?!

Like to do that kinda stuff myself, like tinkering on things, rolling around on the creeper under there becoming familiar with the new toy is cool!
Just did the gauges too...

Put a quart in the filter before you put it on, I do my own but it cost around $60 for me to do but that is with Syn. oil.

I'm with madhat I use a 3/8 ratchet on my drain plug.
